ABSTRACT

The stabilization of volume changes due to oscillations of the humidity of a clay was studied by using different chemical agents. A clay from the region of Jacarandas, Queretaro in Mexico was used in the study. The experimental study included the evaluation of the main index properties of the soil, along with a characterization of the materials through X-Ray Diffraction. The variation of the expansive nature of the clay with time after treatment is the main focus of this study. It has been observed that the stabilaization of the clay by chemical additives is not necessarily a permanent result; it depends on the agent as well as the concentration used.
