ABSTRACT

Several parameters effect on seismic behavior of embankment dam. In this paper we investigate some parameters on Mamloo dam that has been located in south-east of Tehran, Iran which has a central region of lean clay and two sides region of clayey gravel in core zone. we specially study the effect of elasticity of cutoff, foundation and clayey gravel regions on stresses, pore pressure and subsequently the hydraulic fracturing; we also have some comparison between zoned core and simple core with lean clay materials, and have some discussion on accelerogram type and acceleration response of the dam. A simple trapezoidal element is used for modeling the thin rockfill core of dam with nonlinear soil parameters. Handling of these parameters with contemplation of the intermediate principal stress in plane strain condition is discussed.

Keywords: embankment dam, seismic behavior, clay, pore pressure, hydraulic fracturing
