ABSTRACT

Pile foundation was widely used in the bridge constructions, however, the problem of determining the effective length of piles have no final conclusion yet. In this paper buckling analysis was adopted to determine the effective length of friction piles based on m-method. The influence of pile diameter, buried length of piles, resistance of soil on the side of piles and pier height to the effective length of friction piles was studied by using Euler formula. Results show that the effective length of friction piles will not be influenced by buried depth of piles when the buried depth of piles is greater than thirty meters. The effective length of friction piles increase as pile diameter and pier height increase and decrease as proportional coefficient of lateral resistance of soil increases. In the end of this paper the effective length factor of friction piles is tabled which is convenient to use in project practice.
