ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on the widely used technologies, by which the excess sludge in industrial wastewater treatment plants is able to reduced in-situ. The perforrmance of anaerobic digestion of industrial sludge containing high inorganic solid in Fushun Petrochemical Corporation Wastewater Treatment Plant (FPCWTP) in China was evaluated using anaerobic digestion reactor. In order to find out the optimal condition for sludge anaerobic digestion and obtain the best reaction rate, this experiment studied the factors that influence sludge anaerobic digestion, which include temperature, pH, rate of sludge dosage, organic loading. For the sake of comparing different retention time and organic loading influences on the efficiency of sludge anaerobic digestion, the experiment maintains invariable solid concentration to study the interrelated efficiency of sludge anaerobic digestion. Considering the organic loading and digestion tank volume, a suitable condition was: Sludge dosage ratio was in 7.5% ~ 10% in volume. The organic loading was 0.6 ~ 0.8 kg/(m3•d). The pH was controlled in 7.0 ~ 7.5. Alkalinity was about 2600 mg/L. Under such circumstances, a total COD removal reached 35.5% ~ 37.6%, gas production reached 6320 ~ 6543 ml and CH4 production was 0.265 (m3/kg COD) ~ 0.274 (m3/kg COD). These correlations could serve as useful guidelines to quantitatively assess the impact of on excess sludge biodegradability parameters.
