Limit Equilibrium Analysis for the Relationships Among Slope c, f and Slip Surface

ABSTRACT

The objective of the present paper is to study the effect of the shear strength parameters cohesion c and internal friction angle f on slope stability through theoretical derivation and limit equilibrium method; in this study the Bishop method is utilized to identify changes in cohesion c and internal friction angle f. Changes in the slope safety factor and slip surface are likewise investigated. The results of the study show that the slope safety factor depends strongly on the cohesion or internal friction angle. Moreover, the slip surface is affected by function hcf, which is related to the cohesion and internal friction angle. When h is constant, the slip surface does not change along with the change of cohesion value. When hcf increases, the slope of the slip surface gradually moves from the near slope to the internal slope. When hcf decreases, the slope of the slip surface gradually moves from the internal slope to the near slope. The results of this research can serve as a reference for slope stability analysis theory and application research.
