One-dimensional Experiment Research on Vacuum Degree Transmission Law in Unsaturated Soil

 ABSTRACT

The transmission law of the vacuum degree provides the basis for the determination of depth and distance of the wells in vacuum dewatering projects. However, little has been researched on the transmission law of the vacuum degree in unsaturated soil so far. In practice, the design of the projects mainly depends on experience and lacks scientific understanding. Two one-dimensional soil-column experiments are designed and the experiments are done from both the vertical and horizontal directions with silt soil as the experiment material. The two experiments were conducted to simulate the vacuum transmission law in vertical and horizontal direction in soil. The experiment data shows the transmission law of vacuum degree in unsaturated soil and provides four changing stages of vacuum degree in uniform soil: high vacuum degree stage, rapid attenuation stage, relatively stable stage and extinction stage, which provides reference for the design of vacuum dewatering projects.
