Stiffness Degradation of Soft Marine Clay under Uniaxial Cyclic Loading

 ABSTRACT

Offshore foundation soil often experience harsh wave load, degradation of modulus under wave load is an important dynamic property for soil that supports offshore structures. In this study, degradation of modulus of soft marine clay under uniaxial cyclic load was investigated based on a series of cyclic triaxial tests. Test result show that: when cycle number is less than 200, degradation index decreases linear with the increase of logN, and a semi-logarithmic model was proposed to describe degradation index versus number of cycle; degradation parameter has linear relation with normalized pore pressure; after 200 of cycles, degradation index come to a stable value, stable degradation index decreases with the increase of normalized pore pressure, and a linear model was advanced to estimate stable degradation index based on normalized pore pressure.
