 ABSTRACT

Stability of rock slope usually uses perfect elasto-plastic criteria like Mohr-Coulomb criterion in analysis. However, the perfect elasto-plastic criteria have some limitations in describing the behaviour of rock mass, such as they cannot explain the influence of rock mass in the low stress areas and only reflect the characteristics of linear failure of rock mass. In order to overcome those shortcomings, this paper develops the calculation method for safety factor of rock slope based on nonlinear model. The relations between the parameters from nonlinear failure criterion and linear failure criterion are obtained by theoretical derivation. Parametric studies are done to study how nonlinear criterion characteristic affects the stability of slope.
