Pile Capacity in Silt Layer under Elevated Temperature

This paper presents the simulation of thermal effect on pile in silt layer under elevated temperature. The undrained shear strength at different temperatures, which is an important parameter for design of pile capacity, was calculated using expression derived by Uchaipichat (2013). The simulation results show that the end bearing, shaft friction and total pile capacity decreased with increasing temperature for the soil surrounding pile with different values of OCR. Moreover, the factor safety decreased with increasing temperature. The results also show that the end bearing, shaft friction, total pile capacity and safety factor decreased with increasing OCR.
