Collapsibility and Microstructure of Loess

 ABSTRACT

Collapsible performance is the subsidence of loess soaked by water in the upper class pressure performance. The coefficient of collapsibility is the percentage of soil samples under pressure collapsible amount of its original height. Collapsibility is a important indicator for the collapsible performance of loess. The pore distribution function of loess was established based on fractal theory. The moisture distribution of loess under pressure was analyzed. The relationships between collapsibility coefficient and porosity with fractal dimension were analyzed in this paper. The collapsibility coefficient of loess increases with the increase of fractal dimension and porosity.
