A Fast Pick-up Method of 3D Point Cloud for Rock 3D Shape Measurement System

 ABSTRACT

In rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering, it is needed to obtain the three-dimensional point cloud of the rock joints surface to study the influence of the joint surface factors on rock. With the advantages such as no phase shift error, measured fast, portable, high accuracy, the three-dimensional measurement system which is based on the heterodyne principle and digital grating phase-shift technology has been widely used in rock three-dimensional shape measurement. Because the amount of data to acquire is large, and some often is not accord with the actual needs. Therefore, how to pick up point cloud data quickly, and then conduct editing processing is significant for obtaining the correct rock three-dimensional morphology. This paper presents the specific principles and procedures of collecting 3D point cloud of rock topography by means of the ray method and its improved algorithm. By calculating the number of intersections between the horizon through a given point and arbitrary polygon edges, this method can determine whether the given point is in any polygons and then pick up the data. The experimental results show that this approach can quickly pick up point cloud data and achieves the desired result.
