 ABSTRACT

Based on the analysis of soil arching effect of cantilever pile supported to slope, the existence conditions of soil arch and suitable pile spacing were pointed out. it is concluded that the shape of soil arch is catenary by Means of the mechanical characteristics of the soil arch; the maximum pile spacing is concluded by the equilibrium condition of forces on the foot of arching and the arch crown section was meeting the Mohr-Coulomb criterion, the relationship between the cohesive force, friction and soil arch span is studied. It is proved that soil arch span is growing as follow the increases of the cohesive force and friction. In addition, the change of the high arch was decreases with the increase of soil load between piles, besides associated with pile spacing. Finally, the calculation formula are verified by an engineering example, it is concluded that the suitable pile spacing comply with engineering practice.
