Dr Fardin Jafarzadeh obtained his BSc in Civil Eng., from Tehran University, Iran, in 1988, and an MSc in Geotechnical Eng. from the same university in 1990. In 1996, he was awarded his PhD in Civil Eng. from Tohoku University, Japan; where he worked as Research Associate for one year. Since 1996 he has been an Assistant Professor in the Civil Eng. Dept. of Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He is also head of the Dam Design Dept. at Moshanir Power Eng. Company, Tehran. His main fields of research and professional activities are: Geotechnical Earthquake Eng.; Dynamic and Static Design of Embankment and Rockfill Dams; Ground Improvement; and Geotechnical Physical Model and Laboratory Tests.
