ENGINEERING GEOLOGY and the ENVIRONMENT

The Greek National Group of the International Association of Engineering Geology takes pleasure in inviting all interested scientists to attend the International Symposium «ENGINEERING GEOLOGY and the ENVIRONMENT», sponsored by the International Association of Engineering Geology (IAEG), which will be held in Athens, Greece, from June 23 to 27, 1997. It is co-sponsored by the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), COGEOENVIRONMENT (IUGS) and is also under the auspices of UNESCO.

Themes

Geomorphological processes, hazards, urban and regional planning, waste disposal and confinement, exploitation of mines and quarries, construction of large engineering works, geological and historical heritage, strategies and legislation, education.

Programme

  • 24 Scientific sessions; 14 General reports; 20 Invited lectures.
  • Oral and poster presentations of selected papers.
  • Opening ceremony at the Odeon of Herod Atticus at the foot of the Acropolis hill.
  • Technical visit to Acropolis, Metro works, and Malakasa landslide.
  • Full day fieldtrip by boat crossing the Corinth Canal and the Corinthian Gulf and then visiting the ancient site of Delphi.

Proceedings

3 volumes published by 'A.A. BALKEMA', distributed upon registration; 1 post symposium volume with general reports, invited lectures, short notes and discussions; Special issue of the International Journal of Engineering Geology.
