RESEARCH POSITIONS CONCERNING COUPLED PROCESSES IN CLAYS Graduate Students

Research Assistant opportunities for pursuing PhD degrees in geomechanical, geoenvironmental, and geological engineering areas. Candidates will have unique opportunities to pursue experimental and/or theoretical/numerical research concerning coupled flows in expansive clays, working with leading experts in the following areas: (1) damaging differential displacements in expansive ground, (2) the role of weathering mechanisms, such as the oxidation of pyrite, in destabilizing ground and triggering landslides, (3) geochemical causes of groundwater movement and abnormal pore-fluid pressures in low-permeability environments, and (4) the remediation of contaminated ground. Candidates with MS degrees in Geotechnical, Geoenvironmental, and Geological Engineering are encouraged to apply.

Research Associate (Anticipated)
A 2-3 year post-doctoral opportunity for integrated experimental and theoretical/numerical research concerning the role of osmosis in expansive soil behavior in near-surface and/or deep geologic systems. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work with leading experts in the following areas: (1) damaging differential displacements in expansive ground, (2) the role of weathering mechanisms, such as the oxidation of pyrite, in destabilizing ground and triggering landslides, (3) geochemical causes of groundwater movement and abnormal pore-fluid pressures in low-permeability environments, and (4) the remediation of contaminated ground. Candidates with a PhD degree and a strong experimental and theoretical/numerical background and interest in coupled processes and the geomechanical behavior of earth materials are encouraged to apply.
