GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING FACULTY POSITION
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the ea of Geotechnical Engineering. The position is expected to begin September 1, 1999 and will be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants in all areas of Geotechnical Engineering are encouraged to apply; however, preference will be given to candidates with research experience and expertise in the area of soil/structure interaction. Applicants must have a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering with a specialty in Geotechnical Engineering at the time of appointment. Applicants should demonstrate that they have professional experience in the practice of Geotechnical Engineering. Professional Engineer registration or the ability to obtain professional registration is a requirement of this position. The successful applicant will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and to develop and maintain a sponsored research program. Appliccants must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
The Department currently has 23 full-time faculty and has $3.6 million in annual research penditures. The Geotechnical Engineering Program is well established with a strong national reputation and about 20 full-time M.S. and Ph.D. students. The UMass Amherst campus is also home to one of the National Geotechnical Experimentation Sites.
