Engineer I Grand Island Nebraska Salary $16.446/hourly

This is an entry-level professional engineering position performing field construction duties.

Essential Duties: Plan and coordinate survey and inspection activities related to a highway construction project. Coordinates engineering activities with the contractor's and utility company's construction schedule. Compares and maintains complete, accurate records of materials tested and used, operations of work performed, compliance and contract special provisions and recording information as a permanent project record. Interprets the specifications, standards and manuals in the resolution of highway project problems. Provides training for two to four employees, prepares traffic control plans and checks for contractor's compliance. Supervises equipment and facility use. Checks plans and re-designs small portions of plans to fit field conditions such as culverts and retaining walls. Meets with adjacent property owners to explain what will be done to the adjacent roadway. Performs project manager duties in the absence of the project manager.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or an engineering intern certificate. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with co-workers, the public, and contractors. Prefer: Experience in field construction, interpreting and applying highway project plans, specifications and contracts, and principles and practices of engineering related to highway construction is preferred. Experience in training staff and maintaining accurate and complete records is desired. Experience in field surveying using a theodolite, and experience in materials and construction inspection are desired. Requires completion of a questionnaire by closing date.
