INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING EJGEPPR.DOT STYLES

Save the ejgeppr.dot file you obtained from the EJGE web site in your Microsoft Word Templates directory. Open Word.

Use either of the following two methods to use this template. The choice depends on whether you have the paper already typed or not.

  1. If your paper has not yet been typed: From the File menu choose New, when Word shows the available styles select the EJGEppr.dot template. Type the paper.

  2. If your paper has already been typed: From the Format menu choose Style Gallery. Choose ejgeppr from the style gallery list. Your document now has the ejge style available. Apply the appropriate styles to various paragraphs.

Select the appropriate style to different parts of the paper , i.e. "paper title" for the title of your paper, "normal" for the text, "section heading" for each section heading, etc. Do not apply individual formats for each part, such as bold, italic, etc; they are applied automatically when styles are selected. If your paper is already written in another style you can apply the ejgeppr styles to the paper file, then you must put the cursor on each part (each heading, or paragraph of text) and apply the appropriate style. Each of the styles are demonstrated in the following imaginary paper. The red words in square brackets, such as [NORMAL] indicate the style names selected for each paragraph.

Notes. The current EJGE paper format does not employ the html styles H1, H2, etc. All the heading styles use the "Verdana" font designed by Microsoft specifically for Web work. It is distributed free. Arial, or its TrueType version, Helvetica, are used as replacement when Verdana is not available for a user's browser.

CONVERTING TO HTML

Although a paper can be exported ("saved as") from MS Word, the authors should not do this themselves as we receive too many mal-formed manuscripts generated this way. A typical problem is a file that is unnecessarily huge. Since this causes lots of waste in storage and transfer, we clean up the unnecessary codes, wasting time. Therefore, we prefer you send us the original word-processing file as an e-mail attachment.
